Afforestation actions
The afforestation actions carried out by the project “Adoptă un Copac” aim to create additional forests and protective forest belts meant to solve several environmental and social problems affecting the communities in the south of the country, in the counties with the largest forest deficit.

Adoptă un copac programme offers educational sessions on environmental issues and sustainable development, for the communities where afforestation actions are carried out, with the aim of increasing the level of information and awareness. The people from these localities are the direct beneficiaries of the forest curtains. They are the ones who grow together with the trees and who need to understand their role and ensure their integrity, so they need as much information as possible in order to do so knowingly.
The educational sessions take place in the form of presentations on how to reduce, reuse and recycle in a proper way, as well as on the importance of forests for a healthy life; competitions and games on environmental themes and clean-up volunteering actions.
These are directed mostly towards the pupils from the schools in the localities benefiting from the afforestation actions.
WHERE?
- In 2010, the contest “Friends of the forest” took place, organized on the International Day for the Environment – June 5, which was attended by students from the schools in Dragoș Vodă and Vâlcelele.
- On March the 26 of 2010, an educational event took place (presentations on environmental issues and cleen-up actions) involving students from Dragoș Vodă school.
- Between March and June of 2014, 115 students from the schools in Poroschia and Dragoș Vodă took part in workshops organized within the educational sessions held by the ViitorPlus team.
- On May the 31st of 2018, in Chirnogi, the commune where we are working on creating a forest belt since the fall of 2017, the project team held 4 educational sessions, which were attended by about 200 students and 10 teachers from the two schools.
- In the fall of 2021, more than 600 students in grades 0-8 benefited from educational sessions supported by OMV Petrom. The schools where I carried out the edu activities – Breasta, Bistreț, Celaru and Goicea in Dolj county.
