Breasta Commune is located in Dolj County, near the city of Craiova.
Plot 1 (2.1 ha) is located at the entrance to Obedin Village and was classified as degraded land after large quantities of soil were excavated and transported for use at the Ișalnița thermal power plant. During this process, the humus rich topsoil was removed, causing the land to lose its fertility and making it unsuitable for agriculture. The plot is also situated between an existing forest and a county road.
Plot 2 (16 ha, of which 5 ha were planted in 2020) is located near Breasta Village, close to the local water treatment station. The site is affected by soil erosion and landslides and has not been used for agriculture for more than 30 years.
Planting forest vegetation on these sites contributes both to increasing forest cover in Dolj County, which has a low level of forested land, and to restoring degraded soils while protecting them against the effects of extreme weather events and erosion.
The Adopt a Tree programme, in partnership with OMV Petrom through the Romania Plants for Tomorrow campaign, is committed to restoring these sites by reforesting them with native forest vegetation.
Latest work carried out: Mechanised weeding between rows on the hillsides of Plot 2 (plateau area) in June 2026; partial manual weeding around the saplings planted as replacement plantings in spring 2026 on Plot 2 (plateau area), carried out in April 2026.
