Why was this shelterbelt location selected?

Roseți Commune is located in the southern part of Călărași County, on the left bank of the Borcea branch of the Danube. Every winter, the locality is affected by the Crivăț, a strong cold wind that brings severe frost, snow drifting, and heavy snow accumulation. Snow drifting is particularly damaging because it removes the protective snow cover from autumn crops, increasing the risk of frost damage, while snowdrifts block households in the eastern part of the village and disrupt traffic on the Călărași to Fetești road.

On the outskirts of Roseți there is a pasture protected by a shelterbelt established 16 years ago. The shelterbelt now requires restoration through the introduction of a more diverse mix of tree species, in addition to the existing black locust, and by filling the gaps that have developed over time. Once restored, it will provide effective protection against snowstorms and strong winds, while also increasing soil moisture and improving the productivity of adjacent agricultural land.

Since the autumn of 2016, the Adopt a Tree project has been establishing new shelterbelts and restoring existing ones that had begun to deteriorate on the approximately 3.5 hectare site provided by Roseți Town Hall.
