Reason for choosing the location of the forest belt:
Dragalina locality is in the southern part of Bărăgan, on the platform between Lunca Dunării to the south and Lunca Ialomiţei to the north. In this commune there is also the Ciulniţa railway junction, as well as the road junction between DN 21 (Călăraşi-Slobozia) and A2 (Autostrada Soarelui).
In recent years, the town has been affected by more and more extreme weather events, including snowstorms, wind gusts of 140 km/h, or even tornadoes. The establishment of forest protection curtains could solve these problems in just a few years, in addition to the rest of the benefits they bring, such as increasing soil water reserves and the productivity of adjacent agricultural land, combating climate change, or regulating water and temperatures regime.
The project “Adoptă un Copac” began to plant forest belts in the area of Dragalina, in order to protect access roads, water collection stations, the Technological High School “Duiliu Zamfirescu” and the village of Constantin Brâncoveanu, in the face of extreme weather events.
The land provided by Dragalina Town Hall has a total area of about 5 ha and is divided into 3 plots.
