Location: Apele Vii commune, Dolj county
Project start: spring 2022
Planted area: 3.8 ha
Objective: to establish an improvement perimeter for the rehabilitation of a desertified land.
Species: acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia), willow (Elaeagnus angustifolia) and honey locust (Honey locust).
Estimated time of forest maturity: autumn 2028 (estimated)
Current project status: ongoing
Partners: OMV Petrom
Reason for choosing this location for the forest belt:
Apele Vii commune is located in the south of Dolj county, in an area strongly affected by desertification. Following pedological studies, the soil of the planted plot was classified as degraded by desertification and for its stabilization and rehabilitation it was recommended to plant forest trees.
Together with the partner OMV Petrom and the local administration Apele Vii City Hall, in spring of 2022, we started planting mixed species seedlings on the surface of 3.8 hectares of desertification.
Adoptă un Copac aims to increase the forested area in southern Romania, in some of the counties with the largest forest deficit, mainly by creating forest protection curtains.
Adoptă un Copac is a program of the Viitor Plus association – for people and nature.
