Reason for selecting the land improvement site
Mereni Commune is located in Constanța County, one of the least forested counties in Romania. Forests cover only 5% of its total area.
The site afforested in the spring of 2021 and the spring of 2022 is located in the village of Ciobănița, Mereni Commune. It was classified as degraded land due to overgrazing and intensive agriculture. The site is adjacent to an existing forest and aims to rehabilitate the degraded soil while also increasing the forested area for the benefit of the local community.
