Reason for choosing this location:

Breasta commune is located in Dolj county, near Craiova Municipality.

Plot 1 (2.1 ha) is located at the entrance to the village of Obedin and was declared degraded land after large amounts of soil were excavated from this place, which was transported and used at the Ișalnița thermal power plant. During this operation, the humus-rich layer of the soil surface was removed, so that the soil lost its fertile properties and could no longer be used for agriculture. At the same time, this surface is located between an already existing forest body and a county road.

Plot 2 (16 ha, of which 5 ha planted in 2020) is located near the village of Breasta, next to the water station that supplies the commune. This area is affected by erosion and landslides, and has not been used for agriculture for over 30 years.

The planting of forest vegetation on these lands contributes both to the increase of the forested area in Dolj county, a county with forest deficit, and to the rehabilitation of soils and protection against the effects of extreme weather phenomena and erosion.

“Adoptă un copac”, in partnership with OMV Petrom, through the project “Romania plants for tomorrow“, undertook the task of planting new forests on the plots provided by the Town Hall.
