Gherghița
Location: Gherghița Commune, Prahova County
Project start: Autumn 2022
Planted area: 4.83 hectares
Objective: Establishment of a restoration plantation to rehabilitate degraded land.
Species planted: White poplar (Populus alba), green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica), common privet (Ligustrum vulgare), Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia), and field maple (Acer campestre).
Canopy closure: Autumn 2028 (estimated)
Current project status: Replacement planting and maintenance work in progress.

Why was this restoration site selected?
This site in Gherghița Commune, Prahova County, had been officially classified as degraded, non productive land. The forest being established will help stabilize the land adjacent to the Prahova River, create a more favourable microclimate for the local community, and support the restoration of the degraded terrain.
